SUMMARY:HIP-2D-QM Fall Workshop 2026: Structural Characterization of Functional Materials: Diffraction and Complementary Techniques
DESCRIPTION:The HIP-2D-QM Fall Workshop 2026 continues on 13 August 2026 at 10:00 with the lecture “Structural Characterization of Functional Materials: Diffraction and Complementary Techniques” by Prof. Ivana Evans\, Department of Chemistry\, Durham University\, UK. \nIn the first part of the lecture\, Prof. Evans will introduce the fundamentals of diffraction\, the most powerful technique for the structural characterization of crystalline solid-state materials. She will explain\, step by step\, where structural information is contained within a diffraction pattern and how researchers extract that information. The lecture will also include a concise introduction to complementary characterization techniques\, including electron microscopy and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). \nIn the second part\, Prof. Evans will present case studies that demonstrate how researchers use these techniques to investigate functional materials. These examples will highlight the capabilities\, advantages\, and limitations of different characterization methods and show how they complement one another in materials research. \nThe HIP-2D-QM Fall Workshop 2026 runs from August through December and introduces participants to state-of-the-art experimental characterization techniques available at leading large-scale user facilities around the world. The lecture series targets graduate students\, early-career researchers\, and scientists who want to broaden their experimental expertise in condensed matter physics\, solid-state chemistry\, and materials science. \nFind more information on the Fall Workshop 2026 webpage: https://www.advances-fallworkshop26.solidstate.ipb.ac.rs/
