The research was led at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipb.ac.rs\/en\/home-en\/\">Institute of Physics Belgrade<\/a> (IPB) by Dr. Jelena Pe\u0161i\u0107, a member of the HIP-2D-QM team supported through Horizon Europe, together with collaborators from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unileoben.ac.at\/\">Montanuniversit\u00e4t Leoben<\/a> (Austria), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tcd.ie\/physics\/\">Trinity College Dublin<\/a> (Ireland), and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unl.pt\/en\/\">Universidade NOVA de Lisboa<\/a> (Portugal).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"754\" data-end=\"1004\">Instead of focusing only on morphology or conventional microscopy, this study addresses one of the biggest open questions for scalable 2D electronics: <em data-start=\"909\" data-end=\"1004\">how does charge actually travel through solution-processed 2D material films in real devices?<\/em><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1006\" data-end=\"1468\">To answer this, it used in-operando Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) to directly visualize potential drops across individual MoS\u2082 nanosheets,\u00a0 and crucially - heir junctions inside functioning transistor structures. By combining these measurements with Y-function analysis and network modelling, the researchers showed that junctions between nanosheets dominate overall resistance and play a key role in shaping device performance.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1470\" data-end=\"1677\">These insights strongly support the vision of the HIP-2D-QM Horizon Europe project, which aims to develop advanced quantum and functional materials, including scalable 2D systems for future technologies.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1679\" data-end=\"1758\">The full open-access article is available in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41699-025-00609-6\"><em data-start=\"1724\" data-end=\"1757\">npj 2D Materials &amp; Applications<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The paper \u201cImaging junctions in two-dimensional semiconductor nanosheet networks\u201d has just been published in npj 2D Materials &amp; Applications.
