HIP-2D-QM Workshops on Intellectual Property Rights and Technology Transfer
October 27-28, 2026
Location: Lecture hall “Dr Dragan Popović”, Institute of Physics Belgrade
The HIP-2D-QM project is pleased to announce two complementary workshops dedicated to intellectual property protection, patent searching, technology transfer, and commercialisation of research results.
The workshops aim to strengthen researchers' and project managers' understanding of how scientific results can be effectively protected, evaluated, and translated into practical applications and innovation opportunities.
Through expert presentations, practical examples, and discussions, participants will gain insights into intellectual property management, patent protection strategies, Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), and pathways from scientific research to commercialisation.
Both workshops are intended for researchers, project managers, and professionals interested in intellectual property management, innovation, technology transfer, and the commercialisation of scientific research.
The event is open to all institute staff and external attendees, with mandatory prior registration due to limited number of spots.
Day 1 — Intellectual Property Rights and Advanced Patent Search Strategies
Date: Tuesday, 27 October 2026
Time: 12:30–16:00
Lecturers: Jelena Tešić and Saša Zdravković, Intellectual Property Office of the Republic of Serbia
The first workshop will focus on intellectual property rights and their relevance to scientific research and innovation. Participants will be introduced to different forms of intellectual property protection, the requirements and scope of patent protection, and practical methods for searching patent documentation.
Special attention will be given to the relationship between scientific publication and patent protection, intellectual property ownership in research projects, and advanced patent searches using the Espacenet database.
Main topics:
- Introduction to Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)
- Patent applications, claims, and patent classification systems (IPC/CPC)
- Requirements and scope of patent protection
- Patent vs. Publish: Navigating disclosure in research
- National and international patent systems
- Intellectual property ownership and management in research projects
- Advanced patent searching using Espacenet
Agenda: IP Workshop
Day 2 — Technology Transfer: From Research to Impact
Date: Wednesday, 28 October 2026
Time: 10:00–15:00
Lecturer: Gordana Danilović Grković, Regional Innovation Expert
The second workshop will focus on bridging the gap between scientific research and commercialisation, with particular emphasis on assessing the maturity and technology transfer potential of research results.
Participants will explore the Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) framework, learn how to assess technology maturity and plan TRL progression in the context of research funding opportunities, and identify which research results have the potential for practical application and commercialisation.
Practical examples and real-world experiences will illustrate different technology transfer pathways, common challenges, and key considerations in turning research results into innovation opportunities.
Main topics:
- Technology Transfer: From Research to Impact
- Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) and Technology Maturity Assessment
- TRL Assessment and Progression in Research Funding
- What Makes a Technology Transferable?
- From Research Results to Commercialisation
- Choosing Appropriate Technology Transfer Pathways
- Technology Transfer in Practice: Cases and Lessons Learned
Agenda: Technology Transfer Workshop
